Most herbarium specimens have not been examined to distinguish them from C. stricta, s.l. The species is frequent in the Ridge & Valley province.
Habitat
Calcareous fens and spring marshes, wet meadows (especially with seepage), and flood-scoured rocky river shores and bars. Infrequent to locally common in the mountains and n. Piedmont; most frequent and numerous in limestone valleys of the Ridge and Valley province.
