Habitat
Alluvial swamps and floodplain pools, tidal swamps, tidal freshwater and oligohaline marshes, and old forested millponds and impoundments; often growing on Baldcypress knees, tree bases, or fallen logs at or near high-water levels. Rare in the Coastal Plain, with a single record from Loudoun County in the n. Piedmont; most documented localities for this species are in the s. Coastal Plain, south of the James River.
