- Floodplain forests and swamp hummocks, wet flatwoods, and mesic upland forests; occasionally in drier upland forests over mafic rocks. Frequent in the southernmost counties of the s. Coastal Plain and s. Piedmont; infrequent n. to Chesterfield and Gloucester counties.
