Habitat
Well-drained floodplain forests (especially of small streams) and mesic to dry upland forests and woodlands; most characteristic of dry-mesic, base-rich soils. Frequent in the mountains, Piedmont, and inner Coastal Plain; rare in the outer Coastal Plain.
