Seasonally exposed, sandy, silty, and muddy river shores and bars; depression ponds, impoundments, borrow pits, ditches, wet clearings, and ruts; usually associated with shallowly seasonally flooded habitats that draw down during the growing season. Locally frequent in the Coastal Plain and outer Piedmont south of the James River; infrequent northward in the Coastal Plain.
