Comments
A granitic flatrock and southeastern Piedmont endemic, reaching the northern edge of its range in sc. Virginia. Care must be taken to distinguish this species from the closely related and very similar Cyperus squarrosus, which can also occur on granitic flatrocks. Cyperus granitophilus differs primarily in its wider floral scales (1-2 mm vs. < 1 mm in C. squarrosus) and larger achenes.
Habitat
Thin soil, moss mats, and gravelly depressions on granitic flatrocks. Rare in the se. Piedmont (Brunswick, Mecklenburg, and Nottoway counties).
