Comments
Differs from the similar and more widespread Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani in its firm culms, dull gray-brown spikelets, and copious dots on the scales. The Virginia stations are quite disjunct from the main, northern and western range of the species.
Habitat
Calcareous spring marshes in western Virginia and freshwater tidal marshes in eastern Virginia. Rare, mountains and n. Coastal Plain; recorded only from Augusta County (Ridge and Valley province) and along the tidal Potomac River and its tributaries in Arlington, Fairfax, and Prince William counties.
