Comments
Map incomplete at this time; state-wide herbarium studies will be needed to fully map this taxon. See also the species-level map for Scleria pauciflora.
Varieties of Scleria pauciflora have generally not been distinguished in Virginia floristic studies, and many Virginia herbarium specimens await critical examination. The two vars. of S. pauciflora treated here are distinguished solely by the degree of pubescence on culms, leaves, and bracts. Most Virginia specimens can be assigned to variety without too much difficulty, although intermediates occasionally occur. These taxa both occur state-wide, and in similar habitats, making their utility seem questionable.
Habitat
Wet to dry, open woodlands, clearings, meadows, and boggy wetlands. Status somewhat uncertain (see Comments), but widely distributed and probably frequent in some areas.
Native Status
Native
