A rare taxon collected several times in the eastern part of the state. Most authorities consider this a hybrid between Sphenopholis pensylvanica and S. obtusata. However, the jury may still be out on whether it is a sterile hybrid. It occurs independently of its putative parents at some of the Virginia sites.
Habitat
Mesic forests, well-drained alluvial forests. Rare, Piedmont and inner Coastal Plain.
