Comments
Shetler & Orli (2000) cite an E.S. Steele specimen from Fairfax (1899). Collected by Steele along Hunting Creek, City of Alexandria, Sept. 4, 1899 (a single plant); also collected in Westmoreland County. This handsome native of Europe is sometimes cultivated for ornament and medicinal properties, and it may have been an ephemeral escape in the two Virginia localities. It is also reported as an introduction in NY, PA, MD, and TN.
