Comments
The identity of specimens remains problematic even after several recent studies. Virginia specimens have, for the most part, been variously determined as L. graminifolia var. racemosa, L. graminifolia var. smallii, and Liatris regimontis.
Habitat
Rocky woodlands, barrens, outcrops, clearings, and road banks; often on mafic or calcareous substrates. Infrequent in the mountains, although locally common in certain areas.
