Comments
In 2012, we felt that the original molecular work suggesting that Prenanthes as traditionally circumscribed is polyphyletic was old and preliminary, and that additional studies including North American taxa were needed to confirm the relationships of Prenanthes and recognition of Nabalus at the genus level. More recently, additional studies have definitively supported the inclusion of North American Prenanthes in Nabalus. See Schilling et al. (2015, Phytoneuron 2015-19: 1–8).
Habitat
Formerly in bogs and wet savannas; now confined to boggy power-lines, clearcuts, and roadside clearings. Rare in the s. and c. Coastal Plain, mostly south of the James River.
Native Status
Native
