- This species is essentially a broad Central Appalachian endemic (MD, WV, VA), but extends into the Southern Appalachians of NC.
- Habitat
- Dry rocky forests, woodlands, barrens, and outcrops; documented on a wide range of rock types,. Common in the mountains (although absent from far sw. Virginia); infrequent to rare in the sw. Piedmont.
