Comments
The genus Ampelopsis, as traditionally circumscribed, has been shown by several studies to be paraphyletic. To maintain monophyly in genera of Vitaceae, Wen et al. (2014, Phytokeys 42: 11-19) separated Ampelopsis into two genera: Ampelopsis and Nekemias.
Habitat
Alluvial and maritime swamps, bottomland forests, riverbanks, low forest borders, and depression ponds. Infrequent to locally common in the s. and c. Coastal Plain and se. Piedmont, north to Hanover and King William counties, west to Halifax County.
