Plants in our area are var. virginianum. Var. angustifolium (A. DC.) Griseb. is an extremely narrow-leaved plant of s. GA, s. Al, FL, Central and South America with foliage resembling that of Desmodium strictum.
Habitat
Forest edges, woodlands, dry clearings, and roadsides, especially in sandy soils. Frequent in the Coastal Plain and the outer Piedmont south of the James River; rare elsewhere in the Piedmont.
