An obligate shale barrens species endemic to western Virginia and eastern West Virginia.
Habitat
Shale barrens and woodlands, often in the driest, most open microhabitats. Infrequent to rare; in Virginia, known from six counties in the wc. Ridge and Valley region, locally common at some sites.
