Comments
Generally, a large-leaved species of the mountain region. Lectotypified in Taxon 52:337-338 (2003) and considered to represent the entity known as C. pedicellata Sargent, a name that has not often been applied to Virginia specimens. The records in Atlas III are mostly referable to other species.
Habitat
Mesic to dry upland deciduous forests, pastures, successional shrublands. Infrequent in the mountains and inner Piedmont.
