- Moist, rich floodplain forests and adjacent lower slopes. Infrequent in the n. Piedmont and mountains; locally abundant along the Potomac River and its major tributaries in n. Virginia; there are two records from the James River watershed (Alleghany and Buckingham counties), and one record from the Rappahanock River watershed (Fauquier County).
