Comments
Treatment follows Flora of Virginia and Flora of the Southeastern U.S. in including Nuttalanthus in Linaria, based on recent phylogenetic studies. Of note is the fact that in the study by Ogutcen & Varnosi (2016, Amer. J. Bot. 103: 1071-1081), although Nuttallanthus separated from Linaria some millions of years ago, it is nevertheless nested within the other Linaria clades.
Habitat
Maritime dune woodlands, scrub, and grasslands; sandhill woodlands, thin soil around mafic and felsic outcrops; sandy or dry roadsides, fields, and clearings. Common in the Coastal Plain; frequent in the Piedmont; rare in the mountains.
Native Status
Native
