This taxon and O. pilosella ssp. sessilis (Pennell) Straley may be better treated as separate species.
Habitat
Most of the relatively few Virginia specimens are old and habitat information on the labels is sketchy. However, they suggest the species has a preference for moist to wet, often disturbed habitats, e.g., stream margins, damp pastures, "boggy area," etc.. Rare and scattered throughout.
