- Non-native in Virginia where it occasionally escapes from cultivation. Most sources don't formally list varieties of this Phlox. However, Flora of the Southeastern States does, and identifies var. peregrina Shinners as the segregate that escapes cultivation in the east.
- Habitat
- Dry, usually sandy soils of fields, roadsides, and other open, disturbed habitats. Rare in the s. and c. Coastal Plain.
