Parasitic on various species of trees (rarely shrubs), especially (but not limited to) oaks, Red Maple, and gums (Nyssa spp. ); usually in mesic or wet habitats; often abundant in swamp forests.Common in the Coastal Plain, infrequent in the Piedmont and mountains.
