Habitat
Rock outcrops, woodlands, and dry forests on mafic, calcareous, or shaley substrates; at higher elevations, it is more tolerant of nutrient-poor substrates and occurs in various forested and open habitats such as meadows. Common in the mountains; rare in the Piedmont.
