- Scutellaria arguta is sometimes aligned with S. saxatilis. It is here placed with the ovata complex following Pittman (1988). It was listed by Massey (1961) but without basis in the herbarium or his card file.
- Habitat
- Mesic to dry rocky forests and boulder fields; occasionally in cove forests and on stream banks. Frequent in the mountains; rare in the Piedmont.
