- Sida inflexa Fernald was determined by Siedo to fall within the normal variation of E. elliottii, see Lundelliana 2:100-127 (1999). However, he has communicated that further study is warranted.

- Historically reported from sandy, pine and oak-pine forests and clearings and, rarely, sandy alluvium; known only from sandy power-line rights-of-way. Rare, extreme se. Piedmont and Coastal Plain south of the James River.
