Comments
First collected by Ludwig in 1995 and reported in Castanea 64:218 (1999) (as Hedyotis nigricans). The transfer to Stenaria was made by Terrell in Sida 19:591-614 (2001). Church (Molec. Phylogenetics Evol. 27: 223-238, 2003), however, considered Stenaria congeneric with Houstonia based on molecular phylogeny.
Habitat
Limestone barrens. Rare in the sw. mountains; known from a single site in Lee County.
