- Most plants from Virginia previously determined as Galium parisiense L. are referable to Galium anglicum Hudson. The G. parisiense complex is comprised of bristly fruited plants and two glabrous fruited taxa. As a temporary measure until all herbarium specimens can be revisited, the records have been shifted to G. anglicum with the exception of a single record for G. divaricatum. Preliminary studies suggest that G. parisiense, s.s. (with bristly fruits), probably does not occur in Virginia. The three taxa appear to be very closely related and are in need of taxonomic study. To avoid to loss of biogeographic information, they are treated here as separate species. See J. Bot. Res. Inst.
