Overlooked until December, 2011, when DNA sequence data from Dr. Mac Alford (University of Southern Mississippi) confirmed the presence of Gamochaeta pensylvanica in Virginia. Subsequent herbarium searching has turned up previous overlooked specimens. Additional records are to be expected in eatern Virginia. It is fairly distinctive with its broad, unicolored leaves and long-bracteate inflorescences.
Habitat
Cultivated fields, disturbed roadsides, sandhills, and forest borders. Records to date indicate the species is scattered in the s. and c. Coastal Plain.
