A cryptic, problematic taxon in the Oenothera fruticosa complex; larger in all respects and more branched than Oenother fruticosa, but with all differentiating characters overlapping to some extent. If valid, it is a fairly narrow endemic of tidal marshes from se. Virginia to n. SC.
Habitat
Variably fresh to oligohaline wind-tidal marshes. In Virginia, known only from the North Landing River (City of Virginia Beach) and the Northwest River (City of Chesapeake), where widely scattered and infrequent.
