Comments
Included in the synonymy of Dicranum scoparium in Crum and Anderson but recognized by FNA. Dicranum bonjeanii is recognized by its shorter, erect-spreading leaves which are tubulose and subentire distally. Costas are only slightly ridged on the back. Apparently, such plants may occur in a wide variety of habitats.
In Virginia, detached stem tips have been observed on top of cushions from stems fragmenting distally as is seen with Campylopus.
Habitat
In Virginia, most often collected from dry, rocky habitats (mafic cliff, sandstone pavements, shale barrens).
