During the severe drawdown of Mountain Lake 2000-2002, this species populated the lakebed en masse, apparently from a considerable seedbank. See also J. brevicaudatus.
Habitat
Damp exposed soil in open ditches, depressions, and seasonal ponds or impoundments; usually associated with shallowly flooded wetlands that draw down early in the growing season. Frequent in the outer Coastal Plain; infrequent elsewhere.
