- Habitat
- Dry-mesic to dry forests, woodlands, barrens, outcrops, clearings, and riverside prairies; tolerates a range of rock types and soil chemistries. Common over most of the state, especially in the northern and western portions; in the southern Piedmont, it co-occurs, and sometimes intergrades, with the closely related E. pubentissima.
