Documented new to Virginia by Fleming and Carmean in 1995; see Castanea 63:89 (1998). Probably introduced; not seen by Fernald during his 14 years of work in southeastern Virginia.
Habitat
In mud and shallow water of ditches in wet flatwoods. Rare, se. Coastal Plain; known only from two Coastal Plain collections, in the cities of Hampton and Chesapeake. Native of the lower Midwest and Gulf Coast, and a likely introduction in our area.
