Crevices and shelves of flood-scoured riverside outcrops along the Potomac River and its tributaries in the n. mountains and n. Piedmont, where it tolerates a range of rock types and chemistries. Disjunct to the sandy, calcareous banks of the tidal Pamunkey River in New Kent County. Rare.
