- The two vars. of Calycanthus floridus are controversial; they may have been more geographically and morphologically distinct prior to centuries of cultivation and cross-breeding.
- Habitat
- In Virginia, var. floridus is rare on mesic, forested bluffs and well-drained bottoms in the se. Coastal Plain sandhills. Plants matching this var. are also escaped from cultivation in fencerows, roadsides, and around old home sites in scattered counties elsewhere.
