- Collections in southeastern Virginia represent var. arifolia, while those in southwestern Virginia represent var. ruthii (Ashe) Blomquist. The Piedmont (Charlotte, Halifax, Mecklenburg, and Pittsylvania cos.) specimens have not yet been determined so, for the time being, the varietal maps are incomplete and a species map is retained here.
