The specimen turned out to be\u00a0<em>Tragia betonicifolia,\u00a0<\/em>a species of the c. and sc. US that extends eastward in Tennessee. Close scrutiny of specimens of\u00a0<em>Tragia urticifolia<\/em> revealed that the species had previously been found in Henry County and sent in by the County Extension agent. Considering that\u00a0<em>Tragia urticifolia<\/em> is a rare, native species of dry, often base-rich soils in the Piedmont, any weedy\u00a0<em>Tragia<\/em> should be viewed as possibly being\u00a0<em>T. betonicifolia<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tragia betonicifolia &#8211;\u00a0An odd\u00a0Tragia was found in Albemarle County by Tom Dierauff and sent to VPI for identification.
