- Although H. spectabile is a legitimate species that is sometimes grown for ornament, the name has been misapplied (as Sedum spectabile) to H. erythrostichum in other areas, as by Radford et al. (1968, Flora of the Carolinas). The specimen from Craig County should be verified.

- Roadsides. A rare escape, known only from Craig and Fluvanna counties.
