Nonflowering plants can be confused with Medeola virginiana; the latter has a wiry, solid stem that is floccose at least at the base, compared with the hollow, smooth, usually purplish stem of Isotria verticillata.
Habitat
Acidic soils of mesic to dry forests and woodlands, most common in oak/heath forests and pine-oak/heath woodlands. Infrequent throughout.
