Comments
Only a very incomplete map is available at this time, pending extensive herbarium study of the C. albicans complex. This appears to be the characteristic var. in the mountain and Piedmont regions of the state.
Habitat
Dry-mesic to dry (occasionally mesic) forests, rocky woodlands, and clearings. Due to confusion between and lumping of the vars. of C. albicans in Virginia studies, the distribution of var. albicans has not been rigorously mapped. Field and herbarium experience indicates that this var. is frequent to common in the mountains and Piedmont. Populations apparently occur in the n. Coastal Plain, but critical examination of herbarium specimens is needed to fully determine the range.
Native Status
Native
