Comments
MacMillan (2003, Castanea 68: 345-347) suggests that Eryngium aquaticum L. var. ravenelii (A.Gray) Mathias & Constance of calcareous wet savannas in SC, GA, and FL warrants species status. While this sounds plausible and is followed by Flora of the Southeastern U.S., contemporary studies supporting the rank change are lacking.
Habitat
Freshwater and oligohaline tidal marshes, tidal swamps, and sea-level fens; a constituent of both lunar-tidal riverine systems of the northern Coastal Plain and wind-tidal systems of the Embayed Region of far se. Virginia. Infrequent in the Coastal Plain.

Native
