It is not known whether the 1941 specimen at US represents a native or introduced population. If native, it would be near the species' southern limit. Another old (1946) specimen at US from Fairfax Co., labelled "Rosa blanda" and previously forming the basis for this species in the Virginia flora, was annotated to Rosa palustris by Walter Lewis. The treatment here follows FNA and others in not recognizing varieties of this species.
Habitat
In an old field near Hopewell Gap of the Bull Run Mountains. Rare, n. Piedmont, known from a single 1941 collection in Fauquier County.
