Comments
This species has an unusual, scattered range, and our Piedmont populations are significantly disjunct from the nearest populations in southern Ohio, e. Kentucky, and the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee. Flower color in the species is usually described as "light pink" or "lavender," but our populations have uniformly creamy-white flowers (see photos).
Habitat
Rather rich, wooded ravine slopes and bluffs along and near the Meherrin River. Rare, se. Piedmont; documented only from a small area in Brunswick and Mecklenburg counties.
