Comments
The report of C. aestivalis from Princess Anne Co., based on Fernald & Long's #10,671 reported in Rhodora 47:151 (1945) as C. aestivalis, has been found to be a spatulate-leaved form of C. crus-galli (R. Lance, pers. comm.). Crataegus aestivalis is believed to range only as far north as c. eastern North Carolina.
Habitat
Old fields, thickets, woodland edges, shrubby clearings and, in the mountains especially, abandoned pastures. Frequent to common in the mountains, infrequent eastward.
