Comments
Endemic to North Carolina and Virginia. Its discovery in Virginia is described briefly in Banisteria 1:16-17 (1992). Molecular studies demostrate an extremely close relationship to C. rotundifolia from which it is probably recently derived.
Habitat
Small-stream sand and gravel bars, swampy floodplain forests, and rocky seeps. Rare in the far sw. Piedmont; known only from Patrick County.
