Plants with short, gland-tipped hairs have been called var. xalapensis (Kunth) Pennell. It occurs mostly west from the Ohio Valley. Though attributed to Virginia by Massey (1961), this seems to be without basis.
Habitat
Fields, lawns, roadsides, clearings, and other open or partly shaded, disturbed habitats. Frequent to common throughout.
