Comments
The single Virginia specimen (WIS) is an 1893 collection by J.K. Small that was annotated to S. pulchrum by R.E. Anders in 1983 (Biodiversity occurrence data published by WIS. Accessed through Consortium of North American Bryophyte Herbaria (CNABH) Data Portal, http//:bryophyteportal.org/portal/index.php, 2015-02-10).. The only locality data is "Dismal Swamp, Virginia;" therefore we have mapped both of the potential counties of occurrence. FNA maps the speces south to New Jersey and West Virginia.
Habitat
The specific Dismal Swamp habitat is unknown. FNA lists this species as growing in bogs, poor fens, and floating mats.
