Comments
Primarily a Midwestern species, Bidens aristosa has likely been introduced over much of Virginia in response to post-settlement land clearing and other disturbances. This species is similar to Bidens polylepis and sometimes lumped with it. It differs primarily in its shorter, fewer and less pubescent calyculus bracts and smaller achenes. Bidens aristosa is clearly the less common of the two species in Virginia.
Habitat
Fields, pastures, and roadsides. Infrequent, Piedmont and Coastal Plain. This species could be overlooked and under-documented to some extent due to past lumping with the very common B. polylepis.
