Morin (2020, Phytoneuron 2020-49: 1-46) transferred this species to the new genus Palustricodon as a result of phylogenetic studies demonstrating that Campanula as traditionally circumscribed is polyphyletic. Habitat
Bogs, fens, seeps, seepage swamps, alluvial swamps, wet meadows, and old beaver impoundments. Infrequent in the mountains and n. Piedmont; rare elsewhere.
