Comments
The map includes records for both varieties of Symphoricarpos albus. Var. albus is a native shrub occurring at the eastern edge of its range in Virginia. Var. laevigatus (Fern.) Blake is native to the Pacific Northwest and introduced in the east through escapes from cultivation. Several records have not yet been determined to variety. To make matters difficult, the escapes of var. laevigatus, in addition to occurring in ruderal habitats, can occur in woodlands and barrens similar to those in which var. albus is found.
